Context

Cobi Tower is a prominent feature in the heart of Phu My Hung urban district, District 7, Ho Chi Minh City, characterized by its innovative façade design. The design encapsulates modern, minimalist, yet luxurious architectural elements with a strong façade executed by BM Windows. A unique aspect of Cobi Tower is its use of environmentally-friendly terracotta cladding, which contrasts sharply with the reflective glass panels that mirror the sky.

The overall design language accentuates the building's vertical progression, enhancing its sense of freedom. BM Windows has adeptly woven together glass and terracotta panels, producing a dynamic vertical rhythm that underscores the project's robust and distinctive architectural style.

Specialized Technical Solutions

The exterior of Cobi Tower is wrapped in two eco-friendly materials: double-layered low-E glass and terracotta cladding. The double-layered low-E glass is renowned for its UV-blocking capabilities and its effectiveness in reducing heat transfer both into and out of the building. Together with the terracotta, it forms an insulating layer that maintains stable indoor temperatures and optimizes the building's energy efficiency. The combination of double-layer Low-E glass and Terracotta ceramic creates a thermal barrier that helps conserve energy in regulating the interior temperature of the building.

Design Features

The façade incorporates two primary materials: glass and terracotta cladding.

Cobi Tower utilizes a semi-unitized system, with 50% of the façade comprising terracotta cladding. The terracotta panels are interspersed with glass panels and are uniquely connected to aluminum frames. This enhances their ability to absorb building vibrations and thermal expansion, preventing abrupt breakage. BM Windows has developed an optimized construction approach for integrating these two systems, delivering a comprehensive façade solution that includes both aluminum-glass assemblies and other covering elements.

The structure displays two flat and two zig zagged façades, which present different visual impacts depending on the viewing angle.

Constructed from robust cubic sections that taper vertically, the office tower presents a solid base and a refined upper section. BM Windows has cleverly interspersed solid and void modules, arranging the façade in an offset pattern across the floors to convey a subtle, rhythmic elegance.

New Material: Terracotta

Environmentally-Friendly Terracotta Cladding

Terracotta is a fired clay cladding material that is shaped and hardened through a special firing process to meet the requirements of external building cladding in terms of sound insulation, thermal insulation, durability, longevity, and fire resistance. Terracotta offers outstanding versatility and flexibility in design, contributing to the distinctiveness of architectural form and color in a project.

Terracotta Cladding and Aluminum Glass Implementation

To guarantee the quality of components requiring high technical precision, such as structural silicone adhesives, solid aluminum panels, and thermal insulation, the glass panels are completely processed in a factory setting to ensure top-quality results. The terracotta panels are installed onsite using a straightforward hook system based on modular assembly principles, enabling stringent quality control.

Solution

A semi-unitized system with 50% fired clay terracotta cladding panels strengthens the building's capacity to tolerate vibrations, displacements, and thermal expansion and promotes environmental sustainability.
