Electrochromic glass – Technology for the future
1. INFORMATION AND FEATURES OF ELECTROCHROMIC GLASS:
Electrochromic glass has a 5-10mm thickness, including that of 2 glass layers heated in a vacuum furnace and a smart PDLC film in the middle which adjusts light transmission, retains pure energy, and blocks up to 99% of harmful rays (UV, IR). The product also offers flexible responses to light intensity in order to enhance convenience, protect well-being and furnishings.
The electrochromic glass comes in different colors and lasts over 10 years (100,000 hours). Its light transmission in opaque and transparent states are 55% and 83% respectively.
When a voltage is applied to the PDLC film, liquid crystals are caused to align and allow light to pass through (resulting in the transparent state of glass). Otherwise, with no applied voltage, the liquid crystals are randomly arranged, which leads to scattering of light as it passes through the smart window assembly. The glass then switches from transparent to opaque states.
3. APPLICATIONS IN LIVING SPACES:
With the ability to withstand up to 70 Celsius degree, electrochromic glass is a perfect choice for façades exposing directly to the sunlight, such as those of high buildings or glass fencing, etc.
Electrochromic glass can serve as an elegant space partition for office interiors or opulent penthouses, which enhances aestheticism, modernity, flexibility, and energy efficiency.
In addition, it can be used to display advertising at commercial buildings. LCD film, when in the opaque state, becomes a convenient, simple, and affordable projection screen.
