PMU Mock-Up Testing Completed for The One Toronto
Before commencing the testing phase, BM Windows diligently prepared the entire technical calculation process and installation solutions for The One project's mock-up PMU from the outset of project acquisition.
The mock-up PMU for The One, which includes 30 panels covering a total area of 108 m², is the largest and most complex mock-up ever tested at Winwall Vietnam, meeting Singaporean standards. BM Windows meticulously crafted The One's mock-up PMU based on a detailed 3D model, with each panel consisting of over 200 individual components. The complexity of the design reflects the project's stringent conformity to Canada's most exacting technical standards, as well as its rigorous adherence to the high-rise building codes applicable to structures exceeding 300 meters in North America.
After nearly a month of preparation, the mock-up PMU for The One was successfully produced and assembled for testing at the Winwall Binh Duong Testing Center. This testing, which took place with the participation of various stakeholders—Mizrahi (the developer), Atlas Facades (the façade consultant), RJC Engineers, Core Architects Inc., and Detal (consultants)—spanned three consecutive days, from October 27 to 29.
At the Winwall Vietnam Testing Center, this represented the largest PMU project to date, necessitating the construction of an oversized testing chamber and the installation of various equipment to accommodate the intricate testing procedures and ensure the highest level of accuracy in results.
The project necessitated a unitized façade system compliant with stringent American standards, including AAMA and ASTM. The extensive testing procedure comprised 16 distinct steps, encompassing assessments for air infiltration, static and dynamic water resistance, structural integrity, horizontal (left/right) and vertical (up/down) displacement, ultimate load capacity, BMU equipment testing, and more. Despite undergoing a rigorous testing regimen with precise parameters, Mock-up The One has not only been successfully completed but has also met all the stringent requirements established by the developer and consulting entities.
A noteworthy highlight of the project's testing process was the displacement testing. Following vertical displacement testing of ±20mm and horizontal displacement testing of ±13mm, the glass façade maintained its required waterproofing and airtightness performance. This underscores the outstanding advantages of the unitized façade system.
The One is a challenging and complex project, featuring over 38 different panel types and demanding high-precision manufacturing requirements. With successful PMU testing, BM Windows takes its first confident strides in ensuring the quality of the primary panels and upholding the committed delivery schedule. For this project, BM Windows will produce nearly 7,000 unitized panels, covering an approximate area of 30,000 m2, with the initial shipment scheduled to reach Toronto, Canada, in November.
